The Goose Bay Workshops Interactive History Outreach Program

Featuring
Peter Goebel ~ Historic Interpreter

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter Goebel began a hands-on history outreach program through his business, Goose Bay Workshops.
This program was born out of his passion for 18th century history, and his desire to bring an appreciation for history to children and adults.
Peter’s goal is to expand this program, making it available to more people.
Peter believes his history outreach program a cost effective, convenient way to bring this exciting learning experience to the public.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This program would serve various purposes:

* To bring an exciting learning experience to groups that would find it difficult to visit an historic site or museum.

* As a preview to a visit to an historic site or museum. This presentation would prepare visitors, enhancing their total experience.

* An alternative to visiting an historic site or museum when it is not possible for a group to travel.

* To bring life to history studies.

* To promote local historic sites, museums, and events.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This program features:
~ Dozens of examples of “hands-on” material culture for participants to explore.
* Experienced costumed interpreter and a knowledgeable assistant.
* Open discussion format, the focus of which is determined by the participant’s interests (including, but not limited to; cooking, money, clothing, military, medicine, commerce, travel, ect.)
* A program that is stimulating for ages 5 to 95!
* No preparation time for teachers – no special facilities required!
* A choice of interpreter persona:
Tavern/Coffee House Keeper
Carpenter
Tinker
Militia (with or without weapons)
Scout/Ranger (with or without weapons)
Wax Chandler
Naval Officer (with or without weapons)
Long Hunter
ABOUT PETER GOEBEL – HISTORIC INTERPRETER
Peter has been an historic interpreter for over three decades. His primary occupation as an 18th century coppersmith has immersed him in the history of that period.
He has participated in yearly juried trade shows, and in reenactments portraying a coppersmith/tinsmith.
However, Peter’s knowledge of the 18th century is not limited to metal work. He has worked as an interpreter at Ash Lawn Highland. He was also a member of the Virginia Militia, portraying a Revolutionary War soldier. Peter is currently working as an interpreter at the John Dickenson Plantation.
Production companies, authors, historic sites and museums have all consulted with Peter on various projects.
Through his business (Goose Bay Workshops) Peter has given many “hands-on” presentations to local schools and libraries. He has even recreated an 18th century dwelling in which to give presentations.
Peter is dedicated to ongoing research. He believes the ‘final word’ in understanding the past will never be written. Therefore, he is continually researching and learning. He keeps an open mind at all times and is always ready to accept new information. Sharing this knowledge with others is his passion.
