MEGAPHONE (above)
18th to 19th century style megaphone, fully made of copper. 9" diameter base, the top diameter is 2 and 1/2 inches. Height 10".

POWDER FLASK (above)
Copied from an original, our Voyageur flask dates from the 17th to 18th centuries. Made from non-sparking copper with a friction fit lid attached with a chain. Measures 4" wide by 5 and 1/2 tall. A great alternative to a horn.

USS CONSTITUTION MESS KIT (above)
American naval, as seen on board the USS Constitution. Tin, circa 1780s-90s. Cup measures 3 1/2'' round by 3 1/2'' tall. Plate measures 7'' around bottom, 8 1/2'' around top and 1 7/8'' deep.

RUPERT'S SHOT MAKER (above)
Used to make shot. Dated mid 16th through 18th century. German Prince Rupert wrote: "...long as you observe the right temper of the heat, the lead will constantly drop into very round shot, without so much as one with a tail in as many pounds ... fall to be round and without tail, there is Auripigmentum (arsenic trisulphide) enough put in and the temper of the heat is right."
He also described the shot maker as: "Round plate of copper ... the hollow wherein is to be about three inches over, the bottom lower than the brims about half an inch, pierced with small holes."
In 1618, it is recorded that 3 shot makers and 600 pounds of lead was given to every 35 men sent to Virginia. Copper, 9" in diameter.

BRASS POWDER CHARGER (image above)
Ca. 1600. Based on originals in a private collection, but similar to those found at Williamsburg. Slightly tapered body.
Capacity: Over 120 grains 2F
Height: Two and 3/8 inches
Top diameter: 7/16 inches
Base diameter: 3/4 inch
Charger has two loops on the body to hang it by, and a perforated
extension on the lid.

ARTILLERY QUILL PRIMER (image above)
Tin, about 4 inches long, 1/8 inch diameter with a one-inch dished top. Documented from the French & Indian through Revolutionary War period. This primer was used as a faster method of ignition, as the tube is a lot smaller than the touch hole of the cannon.
Caution! The primer will become a missile upon actual firing ... keep everything you want to take home with you from the area over the touch hole!
